Unwinding on Tuesday

Man, last week was a killer.  Monday and Tuesday I was in Kerrville for a meeting with the District Office.  Wednesday was church.  Thursday, board meeting.  Friday and Saturday we helped with a Convoy of Hope Outreach in Port Arthur.  In the midst of all that I had to study for 3 sermons.  It was crazy!  I almost forgot what my family looked like.

At Saturday’s outreach we saw 68 salvations and gave away over 3,000 bags of groceries.  God is good.  Over 15 churches were involved and many lives were touched.  There was a great write-up in the Port Arthur news about it.

This week I am just winding down.  After last week, this week almost feels like vacation.  I am even going to play golf Friday.  Pray for a good round.  I am proud to say that I usually have the highest score.

I have been reading Ablaze For God by Wesley Duewel.  It is a soul-stirring book.  Where has our fire gone.  In the midst of all of the busyness in pastoring, I often neglect to keep this fire burning.  “God help me to never lose sight of the fire that must burn within.”

Why this blog?

I have been reading the book 10 things every minister should know by Ronnie Floyd and he suggested every pastor blog what is happening in their lives.  To give their congregation a glimpse of the “realness” of their pastor.  It is an attempt to share from my heart.  The things are going on in our lives.  The things that we are facing in our nation and His church.  Waiting For Sunday is the look at what the pastor is in week outside of thepulpit.  Dealing with everything from family, ministry the books I am reading and my immense love for the Houston Astros.  This is not my devotional blog.  Thoughts For The Journey is hosted at shepherdheart.wordpress.com.
